Every year, in India and other international locations, because of the Catastrophic nature of corrosion, all industries (Oil, Gas, Petrochemical, Pipeline, Heavy Industries, Marine, Shipbuilding, Aerospace, and other industries) valuable assets collapse and require the replacement of new metal. In India and third-world countries, corrosion awareness is very less which requires proper education and training to cover these corrosion issues. Because of this reason, many graduates, diploma holders, and other degree holders choose these Corrosion control Industries with proper training and certification. Nowadays, many clients and companies are demanding internationally certified Coating Inspectors or painting inspectors which is mandatory for any company intake.
Corrosion is a natural phenomenon in which all metals will be rusted and corroded by Electro-Chemical Process. During Corrosion, the metal will deteriorate and be damaged permanently.
Corrosion is like Cancer or Diabetes which cannot be Cured permanently but it can be controlled, eliminated, or stopped for a particular period with protective measures.
How to Stop or Eliminate Corrosion?
Corrosion can be stopped and eliminated by various methods which are as follows: –

- By Thermal Spray or Hot Dip galvanizing

Who is FROSIO?
FROSIO is a member organization established in 1986 by the industry to meet the growing demand for qualified and certified personnel on all levels within management, production, and inspection of work within corrosion protection and surface treatment. In 2012 FROSIO established a similar system for the training and certification of insulation inspectors.
FROSIO acts through the formulation of quality requirements for surface treatment and insulation inspectors. FROSIO approval and certification scheme have achieved high international recognition and a FROSIO-certified inspector is a specific requirement within different standards and specifications.
Certification is a natural career progression for anyone with a successfully completed apprenticeship or for anyone with long experience in anti-corrosion work or insulation work.
FROSIO has been accredited by Norsk Akkreditering according to ISO 17024 since 2003.
Requirements for FROSIO certification: (Coating Inspectors / Painting Inspectors)
- Attend an 80 hours training course provided by a FROSIO-approved training body
- Pass both theoretical and practical exams
- Document relevant experience and inspection experience
Type of FROSIO certificate based on experience
- The certificates have 3 levels depending on documented experience.
Certification levels and validity
FROSIO certification scheme has three different levels
- Inspector candidate certificate Level I
- Candidates with no relevant experience or less than required for level II
- Valid for 5 years from the first issue date
- Inspector certificate Level II
- Candidate with minimum 2 years relevant experience
- Valid for 5 years from the first issue date
- Inspector certificate Level III
- Candidate with at least 5 years relevant experience whereof minimum 2 years shall be documented inspection experience
- Valid for 5 years from the first issue date
NOTE! Certificates that are not renewed within six (6) months of the expiration date are invalid and the holder must take a new examination. In this case, a unique training course is not required.
Relevant Experience to get Various levels of Certification
SURFACE TREATMENT:
Work directly connected to pre-treatment of metallic surface, application of paint and other coatings for corrosion prevention, and the inspection of such work.
Re-Examination:
The requirement for certification is that you pass both the theoretical and practical FROSIO examinations. You can attend a re-examination if you did not pass one or both of the examinations, and we recommend that you participate in the new examination(s) as soon as possible.
If you have passed one of the examinations, it is valid for up to five (5) years. After this date, it is invalid and you must attend both examinations.
You have three attempts to pass the examinations. If you still do not pass, you must attend a new training course.
